A Medieval Fantasy Warband Strategy
Where followers have souls, music heals the wounded,
and five fractured clans await a world worth mending.
The Game
Bardwynn is a medieval fantasy survival strategy game set in a world of anthropomorphic Beastfolk — mice and badgers, ravens and wolves, frogs and pangolins — each with their own clans, gods, and ancient grievances. You are a new soul, summoned by the great lioness Gaea to mend a world on the brink of ruin.
Drawing from the spirit of Redwall, Narnia, and the Secret of NIMH, Bardwynn synthesizes the open-world survival of ARK, the grand strategy of Civilization, the RPG depth of Skyrim, and something no game has done before: followers who are truly, irreducibly alive.
Every creature in your settlement carries a Koan — a physicalized soul containing their memories, genetics, trauma, and history. They are not units. They are individuals. And their survival is your responsibility.
Core Systems
A diploid inheritance model where species passes through the mother, surnames through the father, and statistics evolve — or decline — across generations. Rare S-tier traits are genuine ascension events worth celebrating.
Craft an instrument and your keyboard becomes it. Not a rhythm game — actual MIDI notes, playable in real time. Perform for your followers before battle. Play modern songs around the fire. Music is a mechanic, not a soundtrack.
Every follower's soul can be saved as a .koan file — a portable object containing their entire identity. Resurrect fallen heroes. Reincarnate them into new bodies. Share your most legendary followers with other players across the world.
A living, interconnected economy where five clans depend on one another in a parasitic loop. Redirect production. Blockade shipping lanes. Weaponize scarcity. Flood the market. The world remembers what you do to it.
Powered by the BardwynnBeast™ cognitive architecture, followers feel their genetic traits reflexively — social anxiety as a constant subconscious urge, courage as an instinct rather than a stat. A digital nervous system beneath every smile.
From skirmishes against bandits to kingdom-scale sieges. Followers can win a battle and still lose their minds. A pyrrhic victory leaves your warriors shell-shocked and dangerous. Manage the psychology of trauma, or pay the price.
The World
Each clan holds a piece of the world's survival — and a reason to resist unity. Your path to restoring Bardwynn runs through all of them.
The world's resource base — farmland, mine, forest, and beast. They produce everything the others depend on and retain none of the security. The exploited diaspora whose labor props up every other kingdom's economy. Their liberation fractures the island's entire economic geometry.
Common followers: Mice · Badgers · Moles · Bears · Boars — though any of Bardwynn's 31 species may call this clan home.
They refine raw resources into higher-value goods — ore into ingots, fiber into fabric, knowledge into productivity. Their economy runs on schools, mana-workers, and the export of trained specialists. Education is both infrastructure and economic weaponry.
Common followers: Ravens · Owls · Eagles · Hawks · Sparrows — though any of Bardwynn's 31 species may call this clan home.
They produce force as an export. In this economy, violence is a commodity. Military protection, escort contracts, intimidation — these are revenue streams. Their philosophy: destruction is renewal, and the strongest is always right. They will come for your settlement when it grows prosperous enough.
Common followers: Foxes · Wolves · Lions · Ferrets · Jackals — though any of Bardwynn's 31 species may call this clan home.
Floating cities control sea trade. They generate salt, fish, and mobility, but depend on lumber from the Earth Clan for shipbuilding. Their cut of every shipment is a tariff for movement. When the seas close, prices choke. Their own god sends sea monsters to test them.
Common followers: Frogs · Turtles · Otters · Cranes · Newts — though any of Bardwynn's 31 species may call this clan home.
A religious state built around the ritual creation of Glimmers — the five-sided golden coins bearing Gaea's likeness. Their power is symbolic and practical: value itself originates from their rites. They do not merely create currency. They define what value is.
Common followers: Lizards · Snakes · Crows · Hedgehogs · Pangolins — though any of Bardwynn's 31 species may call this clan home.
